This is a plain-English summary of what Peelr does with your data. The short version: your health data stays on your device. The few things that ever leave it are listed below in detail.

What Peelr collects

Peelr asks you for the following so it can do its job:

  • Profile: name, sex, height, date of birth, activity level.
  • Body weight: every weigh-in you log.
  • Nutrition: food entries, daily calorie + macro totals, water intake.
  • Workouts: sessions you log, exercises performed, post-session feedback.
  • Health: fasting sessions, supplements / medications, blood pressure readings.

Peelr also asks for system permissions:

  • Apple Health (HealthKit) — to read and write the items above so your health apps stay in sync. This data is managed by Apple Health on your device.
  • Notifications — for weigh-in, supplement, workout, and fasting reminders.
  • Camera — to scan food barcodes (only used when you tap the scan button; no images are saved).
  • Location (optional) — only if you tap "Use my area" in recipe suggestions. We resolve your coarse area to a "City, State" label and include it with that one recipe request so the AI can suggest in-season, locally-available ingredients. Your coordinates are never stored or shared.

Where your data lives

On your device, and only your device. Everything you log in Peelr is stored locally on your iPhone or iPad, encrypted at rest by iOS. Peelr does not sync your health data to iCloud, and does not store it on any server we run. We have no account system, no login, no user database, no analytics, and no advertising.

The only copy of your health data outside the app itself is in Apple Health — and only the specific values you authorize Peelr to write there. Apple Health is governed by Apple's own privacy protections.

When data leaves your device

Peelr's optional AI features send a small amount of data to our backend so an AI model can respond. Each time, we send only what's needed for that one request — never your name, and never your full history:

  • Recipe suggestions — your remaining calories + macros for the day, plus any dietary preferences and disliked ingredients you set.
  • Workout program generation — your fitness level, goal, available equipment, listed ailments, days per week, and session length.
  • Describe-a-meal — the text description of the meal you typed.
  • Weekly health insight — the past 7 days of summary numbers (averaged calories, total workouts, blood-pressure averages, etc.). We do not send individual log entries.

Our backend is a small server that forwards your request to Anthropic's Claude API and returns the response. We do not store the request or the response. The Claude API's handling of data is governed by Anthropic's privacy policy.

Peelr's food database search also talks to two public databases:

  • USDA FoodData Central — the public US government nutrition database. Only your search term (e.g. "banana") is sent. No personal data.
  • Open Food Facts — an open product database used for barcode lookups. Only the scanned barcode is sent. No personal data.
You can use Peelr without ever turning on an AI feature. If you never tap "recipe ideas," "generate a program," "describe a meal," or view a weekly insight — and never search a food or scan a barcode — no data ever leaves your device.

What we don't do

  • No tracking across apps or websites. No third-party analytics, ads, or telemetry of any kind.
  • No selling your data. Ever.
  • No emailing or messaging you outside the app's own local notifications.
  • No background uploading. Network traffic happens only when you take an action that requires it.

Your control

  • Wipe everything instantly from Settings → Delete all data in the app.
  • Export a full copy of your data anytime from Settings → Export all data.
  • Revoke HealthKit access in iOS Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → Peelr.
  • Disable notifications in iOS Settings → Notifications → Peelr.

Children

Peelr is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
